Egenreferat. I många andra västländer används ECT betydligt mindre.

AbstractDespite electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) being recognized as an effective treatment for major depressive episodes (MDE), its application is subject to controversy due to concerns over cognitive side effects. The pathophysiology of these side effects is not well understood. Here, we examined the effects of ECT on blood-based biomarkers of neuronal injury and astrocytic reactivity. Participants with a major depressive episode (N = 99) underwent acute ECT.

Mortality Among Individuals With Hypochondriasis To the Editor I read with interest the article1 by Mataix-Cols and colleagues, who found that individuals who received a diagnosis of hypochondriasis in any type of specialized care in Sweden had a higher mortality risk than age- and sex-matched controls in the general population. This topic is important. The authors present a thorough analysis of the data. I would like to discuss the limitations of these data.
