It’s been well documented by now that Canadians have been travelling to the United States less since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January, but a further breakdown of the data reveals Alberta has seen smaller declines than the rest of the country. Air travel through Alberta’s major airports, in particular, has been less affected than at airports in the rest of Canada.

Albertans in the process of setting up new child-care facilities say they've had the rug pulled out from under them as the Alberta government abruptly informed them last week they would not qualify for grants under the federal-provincial child-care agreement. Parents with kids in a Calgary daycare chain say they feel taken advantage of after new provincial rules took effect on April 1 that set a flat monthly rate of $326 for basic care but also allow operators to charge any amount on top of that for "optional" services. In practice, the parents say, the new $330-per-month "meal service fee" at Clever Daycare hasn't actually been optional.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith welcomed a promise from the Conservative Party of Canada on Monday to eliminate the federal backstop on industrial carbon pricing, if it were to form the next federal government. Although it appears unlikely the province would abandon its longstanding pricing system altogether. "We fully support Pierre Poilievre's commitment to return jurisdictional authority back to the provinces to regulate their own industrial emissions," Smith said in a written statement.
