Kent State students buy through TikTok Shop as platform grows

Americans spend an estimated $32 million per day on TikTok Shop, said. The shopping platform has categories for clothing, beauty, electronics, household goods and more with the ability to reach millions of consumers. TikTok’s main demographic is teens and college-aged individuals and the majority of TikTok creators are between 18-24 years old, according to Exploding Topics. Sam Timar, a sophomore nursing major, is a buyer on TikTok’s shopping platform.

Built in 1848 by Maj. George Grandstaff, the Edinburg Mill was the centerpiece of town life, grinding grain into feed for the local farming community until 1978. The mill even survived Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan’s Union troops during the Civil War as they burned through the Shenandoah Valley in an attempt to destroy the “breadbasket of the Confederacy.”Today, the mill houses a restaurant, aptly called Edinburg Mill Restaurant, that largely uses locally sourced ingredients.

Kent State’s softball team is relatively young, consisting of thirteen underclassmen, with five position players appearing in 30 or more games and three pitchers appearing in 20 or more games. The Flashes (24-18, 10-9 MAC) have had their ups and downs this season, but certain individuals continuously get their name out there. Over the weekend, Kent State’s softball team played three games, taking on Mid-American Conference foe Miami. The Flashes (24-21, 9-13 MAC) underscored Miami 30-8. “We need to have each other’s backs a little better,” coach Jessica O’Donnell said. “Our pitchers are working hard, but we need to outhit, outscore, outwork our opponents — and right now, we aren’t doing that.”Miami scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Flashes (23-18, 9-10 MAC) outscored Bowling Green 17-6 and swept the series. “Great games, great team wins this weekend,” coach Jessica O’Donnell said. “I’m proud of us for not giving up and fighting.” Kent State started the game in the bottom of the second with a two-out single from sophomore catcher Bri Despines to score.
