Pride Month has arrived in all its rainbow-covered glory. To celebrate, special events are being held all over Milton. There’s something for everyone, including outdoor, nature-based attractions and indoor events for those who would prefer to grab a drink and relax. Celebrated around the world in June, Pride Month honours and celebrates the two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex community. Milton also hosts the region’s Pride parade, which is set for July 20.

One of the town’s smaller schools is about to get bigger. The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) voted to approve a $13.2-million budget for an expansion to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Elementary School in Milton. The addition will mean 265 new pupil spaces and 88 licensed child care spaces at the location. The Ontario Ministry of Education informed the HCDSB it would be approving the school’s expansion in a Jan. 27 letter.

Some of the worst traffic in the community is in front of schools during pickup and drop-off times. The Town of Milton passed a motion at the May 26 council meeting requesting school boards explore the reopening of kiss-and-ride areas at their facilities. For years now, the designated pickup and drop-off areas and parking lots at most Milton schools have been closed to traffic at peak times. The boards have argued that doing so has increased safety.
