The Biden Administration’s failure to destroy the Chinese spy balloon promptly after it entered U.S. airspace is very concerning on several levels. As the balloon passed through Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska, five of the eight least densely populated states according to worldatlas.com, no action was taken to bring down the balloon because of the administration’s concerns for public safety.

Republican state Rep. Steve Holt of Denison is proposing legislation fining schools for discussing “divisive concepts” in classrooms. Will Holt be the final arbiter of what’s “divisive?” How about giving that responsibility to “Moms for Liberty” or similar groups?

As a retired public and private school teacher, I believe school choice is innovative and a great idea. We know that no two students are alike and everyone learns differently. For this reason, we need to choose a school according to the school environment, curriculum, resource books, and size of student body. My wife and I were both educators, and we decided to have our children attend a private school in the early years and home-school our children in the latter years.

One would imagine that advocating for statewide book bans ("Reynolds: If one school removes a book, all schools should" Feb. 4) would be a red flag to our governor that she's wading into treacherous waters. But apparently neither Gov. Kim Reynolds nor the poorly-named "Moms for Liberty" is capable of pausing for self-reflection.
