    For the third time since being back in Boulder City, I got to attend and cover the high school graduation. I’ve covered several graduations in a variety of communities during my career but there is definitely something special about covering your alma mater. For those keeping score at home, I was class of 1987. I have to say, Boulder City knows how to honor their graduates. It starts off the with the Grad Walk, now in its 10th year.

    Last week, the city posted on its social media outlets an invitation to the public to attend an open house May 19 to discuss its plans for parking along Nevada Way between Wyoming and Arizona streets. The plan called for parking in the center of the street. The meeting was designed to get final comments from the public before the topic goes before city council on May 27.

    The Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery will again host a ceremony to honor those who have lost their lives in service for the country whether it was during times of peace or wartime. The ceremony is set for Monday, May 26, at 1 p.m. inside the chapel of the cemetery at 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive in Boulder City. There are also weekend activities leading up to Memorial Day.

    I had intentions of writing this month about my goal these past 18 months of gathering experiences as opposed to material things, especially as I get older. My thought has been, I don’t agree with the “you only live once” or YOLO philosophy but rather, you only die once, you live every day. Instead of going into all of that, which I may do at a later date, I decided to write about something we have all experienced, while still having a connection to my original topic.
