Grad Walk: A decade of memories

In just a decade it’s become a tradition every senior at Boulder City High School looks forward to, as do public school students who will one day do the same. Last Friday marked the 10th Grad Walk the high school has held. For those unfamiliar, soon-to-be-graduates don their caps and gowns and along with the BCHS marching band, make their way to Elton Garrett Junior High where they are greeted with signs and words of encouragement by that school’s students and staff.
LMNRA extending popular launch ramp

Those looking to get in some boating time this summer may have to wait a bit longer each time when doing so. This summer, contractors for the National Park Service will initiate Phase 1 of a construction project to extend the Hemenway Harbor launch ramp at Hemenway Harbor. Work is scheduled to begin June 2 and last through summer.
City, businesses talk parking

The goal is pretty clear. The city must comply with federally required standards related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). But accomplishing that goal is a bit murky. The city is currently seeking compliance when it comes to a stretch of sidewalk on both sides of Nevada Way, specifically in the historic downtown district between Wyoming and Arizona streets. A year ago, five possible plans were presented. Since then, that has been whittled down to two.

Historic Preservation Day set for May 10

It’s no secret that Boulder City is full of tradition and pride when it comes to its past. The city was created thanks to the building of Hoover Dam nearly 90 years ago and from that came dozens of homes and businesses, many of which still stand today. To honor its past, the city of Boulder City will again be hosting its annual Boulder City Historic Preservation Day.
Grease fire cause of apartment blaze

A late afternoon structure fire last Friday resulted in severe damage to two apartments and the death of a pet. At 3:59 p.m. on April 25, the Boulder City Fire Department was called for a kitchen fire in the 800 block of Del Rey Drive, which is between Cottonwood Street and Buchanan Boulevard. According to Acting Chief Greg Chesser, crews arrived on the scene just four minutes later to find a two-story apartment, which houses eight separate units.
Boulder City resident arrested on drug charges

A Boulder City man who was involved in a 2021 shooting death was arrested at his home last week on drug-related charges. The Boulder City Police Department said the arrest of John Powell Morgan III had nothing to do with the fatal shooting four years ago of Scott Dingman. While Morgan admitted to shooting Dingman, Boulder City police determined that he did so in self-defense, and no charges were filed.

Pickleball courts break ground at Veterans Park

For those who enjoy pickleball, work began this week on new, designated courts for one of the country’s most widely-played sports. The courts, at the Veterans Memorial Park, will take about 90 days to complete. “Pickleball continues to be a growing sport, and several Boulder City residents had expressed a desire for dedicated outdoor courts,” Parks and Recreation Director Julie Calloway said.
