The case against a 45-year-old man from Bothastrand, just outside Great Brak River, charged with the possession of child pornography, has been postponed to February 26. Mossel Bay Advertiser previously reported that the man was arrested in May 2023 at his luxury home that he shares with his mother. The arrest came after investigators came across sexually explicit videos and images, allegedly of children, and babies. These videos and images were allegedly found on the man’s electronic devices.

Four people were arrested following the murder of a 29-year-old man in Herbertsdale, a settlement in Garden Route in the Western Cape, last night. According to Mossel Bay Advertiser, KwaNonqaba Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp confirmed the arrests were made this morning. The 29-year-old victim cannot be named until his next of kin have been informed. According to reports, a group of people were throwing rocks at the victim’s house shortly before 22:00.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was in Maputo today for the controversial swearing-in of Daniel Chapo as the fifth president of the Republic of Mozambique. Chapo’s inauguration follows months of bloody protest action called for on October 16 by Venâncio Mondlane, the Optimistic Party for the Development of Mozambique’s (Podemos) presidential candidate, who refused to accept the results of the country’s presidential elections held on October 9.

KZN and Mpumalanga once again top the list of cheating cases, Umalusi revealed during a media briefing yesterday. The Witness reports that according to Umalusi CEO Dr Mafu Rakometsi, reported cheating cases decreased from 945 in 2023 to 407 last year. However, the two provinces retained their titles as the regions with the highest numbers of reported incidents, with 195 and 74 candidates, respectively, raising concerns.

The Department of Basic Education has confirmed a possible breach of matric results exams, prompting an investigation involving State Security and the Hawks. According to The Witness, Minister Siviwe Gwarube told the media about the possible breach earlier today, expressing concern over the exploitation of pupils. “They have been preying on innocent learners and siphoning them of money,” Gwarube said.
