Three major Lehigh Valley colleges have agreed to a combined $2.7 million settlement with students who paid for on campus classes but were forced to go remote by COVID-19. The class action settlements with Lafayette College, Lehigh University and DeSales University still require approval by the judge assigned to each case. But the colleges and attorneys for the affected class of students have each signed off on the deals, court records say.

A former Allentown title agent was accused Wednesday of using $6.1 million in business funds to gamble on sports, according to court recordsLouis Belletieri, 43, was charged Wednesday in federal court with two counts of wire fraud. The amount eclipses the $2.1 million he was previously accused of taking according to charges filed in Lehigh County court in 2024. At that time, 15 people accused Belletieri of gambling away funds that were supposed to go toward real estate transactions.

The #ChromebookChallenge encourages students to tamper with school-issued Chromebooks to cause them to overheat, smoke or even catch fire, according to an email from Nazareth Area School District Superintendent Isabel Resende. She said the trend has surfaced on social media platforms, particularly TikTok.

A Bethlehem man who stole more than 150 guns was sent to federal prison Tuesday, according to a news release and court documents. Ismael Terrero-Terrero, 22, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison for the thefts in 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Only 14 of the guns were recovered from Terrero-Terrero’s home, according to records.

Tax dollars only go so far with the Easton Area School District. The district relies on its nonprofit foundation to help pick up the “extras” not covered by the district budget. Now the Foundation for Easton Schools needs a new director. Karoline Orsato resigned the post for personal reasons, according to Easton Area School Board member Meg Sayago. The job has been vacant since March.
