    A teenager who downloaded a video of child rape and tried sending sexual messages to a 13-year-old has been spared jail. Thomas Devonshire, from Ashford, crudely asked who he believed to be a young girl for sex on an internet chatroom for 13-17-year-olds. But Devonshire, then 18, had unknowingly solicited an undercover officer posing as a teen in an operation designed to help keep children safe online.

    A Kent beach has been hit with a "do not swim" warning after a sewage release. The Environment Agency has warned that Shakespeare Beach in Dover is not currently safe for swimmers as there is a risk tides will bring waste into the harbour. It is currently unclear when this incident will be resolved but water samples have been taken from the affected area for further testing.

    Some trains are unable to run this evening due to damage caused by flooding. Passengers travelling between Tonbridge and Hastings are experiencing delays. The cancellations have been caused by damage to the signalling system after flooding in Wadhurst. This brought trains to halt along the same line for several hours yesterday. Service did return but trains were limited to one per hour. This evening the cancellations are in place to allow the signalling system to be repaired.

    A flood alert which includes a town centre has been issued as river levels rise. Extensive areas around Maidstone are covered by the new warning, with the rain set to continue overnight. The Environment Agency has put the alert in place for the Lower River Medway. It comes amid a yellow weather warning for rain which covers the whole of Kent and is in place until midnight.

    A man from Kent has been arrested as part of a murder investigation after a teenager died in Peterborough. Detectives investigating the suspected killing of a 19-year-old have now made five arrests - including a 28-year-old man from Margate. Police were called to a car park in Wellington Street, Peterborough, late on Sunday, September 15. They found Ben Procter unconscious. He died in the early hours of the following day. A post-mortem examination was carried out but came back inconclusive.
