Nearly 51 weeks ago, the San Diego Wave traveled to Texas and, well, nothing happened and everything happened. The Wave and Houston Dash played to a scoreless draw, leading San Diego coach Casey Stoney to criticize the National Women’s Soccer League’s schedule. The club’s three-games-in-seven-days road trip to Washington D.C., New Jersey and Houston was “unacceptable” and “unfair to players,” Stoney said at the time. Stoney was fired two days later.

UCSD announced on Tuesday that Edwards will stay on as a special adviser to UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla.

San Diego FC said it will ban 33 fans who brawled following last week’s match against the LA Galaxy at Snapdragon Stadium. The fans “will be banned indefinitely from attending all Club and MLS events, including home and away matches,” the club said in a statement posted Friday morning. SDFC officials said they’re working with stadium officials, the Galaxy and local law enforcement to confirm the identities of the fans and enforce the bans.

San Diego FC gave CJ dos Santos the opportunity to become a starting goalkeeper in Major League Soccer, and he ran with it. On Thursday, the club rewarded dos Santos with a new deal. The club and dos Santos agreed to a new contract through the end of the 2027 season with a team option for ’28. The new deal goes into effect on Sunday; dos Santos had been under contract through the end of this season with a team option for ’26.
