Generator blamed for shop fire in rural Enderlin

ENDERLIN, N.D. (KFGO) – A generator is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a shop in rural Enderlin Saturday afternoon. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded shortly after noon and the shop was fully engulfed in flames. No one was in the shop and there were no injuries reported. The Sheriff’s Office says the generator was being used to supply power to the property after the tornado that passed through the night before.
1 injured in north Moorhead shooting

MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Moorhead Police are investigating a shooting that left one person injured. Police were called to the 700 block of 15th Street N. around 11 p.m. Sunday on a report of multiple gunshots. Officers spoke with multiple witnesses and found multiple spent cartridges. Later, officers were called to a hospital for a male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police have not recovered a gun or made an arrest.
Walz says Minnesota on alert after US strikes in Iran

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – Gov. Tim Walz is reacting to the US military action against Iran by saying Minnesota is on heightened alert, while noting that there’s no known threats to the state. Walz posted his statement overnight on social media. Minnesota congressman Tom Emmer, who’s also the House Republican whip, praised the military action and added that a nuclear Iran poses a threat to the middle east and the world.
Sheriff’s Office releases names of victims of Enderlin tornado

ENDERLIN, N.D. (KFGO) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office released the names of the three victims of the tornado that hit Enderlin Friday night. Michael Dehn, 73, Katherine Pfaff-Dehn, 73, and 89-year-old Marcario Lucio died in the storm. All three were from Enderlin. The Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:40 p.m. after storm chasers found two of the victims and reported it to Enderlin Fire. Enderlin Fire found the third victim and deputies began doing well-being checks.
Gov. Armstrong issues disaster declaration after storms rip through state

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – Gov. Kelly Armstrong is declaring a statewide sister to help with cleanup efforts after severe weather, including a tornado outbreak that killed three people, ripped through the state Friday night into Saturday morning. “All state agencies and administrators shall activate and utilize their response and recovery resources and capabilities pursuant to the State Emergency Operations Plan.” the declaration says.
Goerger named North Dakota District 25 state representative

Goerger is a retired farmer and former owner of Goerger Seed Company. He has served on a number of commissions and committees, including the Richland County Commission, the state Renewable Energy Council, National Biodiesel Board, state Soybean Council, and Northern Crop Institute, among others.

HANKINSON, N.D. (KFGO) – The National Weather Service is reporting high winds and up to 1.5-inch hail in Richland County Thursday night. Hankinson saw 65 mile an hour wind gusts and quarter-sized to ping pong-sized hail between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. A storm that went through around midnight brought wind speeds as high as 71 miles an hour near Abercrombie and caused tree damage in the Wahpeton area.
Group calling for change Fargo city election process changing focus

FARGO (KFGO) – A bi-partisan group calling for election change in Fargo is changing its focus after finding out primaries are not allowed in North Dakota city elections. The group consists of Forum columnist Jim Shaw, current Cass County Commission Chair Tony Grindberg, and State Reps. Steve Swiontek, Scott Wagner, and Karla Rose Hanson. Last week, the group used the public comment period to ask city commissioners to consider including a primary election for mayoral and commission seats.

Fargo man sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to having sex with 14-year-old

FARGO (KFGO) – A Fargo man will spend over seven years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of sexual misconduct with two 14-year-old girls, and terrorizing with a dangerous weapon. Carter Hammer admitted to having sex with one of the girls several times last summer while she was 14 and 15, saying the two were in a ‘situationship,’ and the sex was consensual. He also admitted to knowing how old she was.
