VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO) – A 45-year-old Grand Forks man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in eastern Barnes County Sunday evening. The highway patrol says the man was driving south on Highway 32 and lost control of his vehicle when it hit a patch of ice. The vehicle went off the road and into the ditch before hitting a tree. The man was taken from the scene by Barnes County Ambulance before being flown to a Fargo hospital by Sanford AirMed.

FARGO (KFGO) – The defense attorney for Ray Holmberg, the former North Dakota state senator who pleaded guilty to traveling overseas to have sex with children, is asking the government to give his client a sentence lower than federal guidelines call for. Citing US Probation and Pretrial Services, Mark Friese says at 81, Holmberg’s age and poor health are among the reasons to give him a lower sentence.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – The University of North Dakota Police Department has identified the owner of a pickup involved in a hit-and-run. UND Police were looking for the owner after the pickup struck an elementary-age child near 39th Street and 6th Avenue N. in Grand Forks. The Department says the investigation is still active and ongoing and anyone who witnessed the crash should contact UND Police.

FARGO (KFGO) – No one was hurt, but residents of an apartment unit were displaced after a kitchen fire in south Fargo Monday night. The Fargo Fire Department says crews responded to the apartment complex at 2551 Villa Drive S at 9:48 p.m. where the fire started in a second-floor unit. Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it spread, but the unit sustained significant damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate isn’t available yet.

FARGO (KFGO) – A Fargo man who fled from West Fargo Police at high speed last summer will spend 28 days in jail. Last June, an officer tried to make a traffic stop after seeing Isaac Teegarden quickly accelerate and screech the tires of his vehicle on Main Avenue. Teegarden drove away from the officer at speeds over 100 miles per hour.
