ASan Miguel County Detention Center corrections officer is accused of firing a gun outside a Las Vegas home, and police further allege he had another man falsely admit to the shooting so he could keep his job. Prosecutors last week charged 21-year-old John B. Hartwick with four felonies in a shooting incident that happened April 18 outside a home in the 800 block of Taos Street.

Prosecutors last week charged 30-year-old Tommy J. Apodaca and 34-year-old Josette V. Martin, alleging in an affidavit that Martin and Apodaca concocted a plan for Apodaca to get arrested on purpose so he could sneak packages of narcotics into the jail.

A judge last week convicted a man on a felony count of aggravated indecent exposure in a 2023 case involving a 6-year-old girl. District Court Judge Michael Aragon on April 3 convicted 58-year-old Louie E. Mares after finding that he made lewd comments to a 6-year-old girl outside her Las Vegas home and then unzipped his pants and exposed his genitals. Las Vegas police initially responded in November 2023 to a call in the 2700 block of Seventh Street about an intoxicated man with blood on his face.

A 20-year-old man is dead and a 23-year-old man is charged with murder following a shooting at a home near the Las Vegas Municipal Airport Tuesday afternoon. Police arrested Cody R. Ramone after responding to a shooting at a home on Prairie Hill Road just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and finding Trevor Szalai dead from an apparent gunshot wound. New Mexico State Police was dispatched to the home for a report of a shooting and an arriving officer found Ramone rendering aid to Szalai.

Police in Las Vegas arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man after stopping a truck that’d been reported stolen. During searches, deputies found two handguns without serial numbers, along with cocaine and methamphetamine, according to court documents. Deputies with the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday arrested 24-year-old Joelouis Rivera of San Miguel County and a 14-year-old boy from Mora County after the traffic stop.
Vegas man accused of leading police on high-speed chase in Mora

A Las Vegas man already facing charges for allegedly driving on a revoked license while speeding through Las Vegas now faces a felony charge following a similar incident in Mora County. Deputies with the Mora Sheriff’s Office arrested 54-year-old Lewis J. Padilla earlier this month and charged him with a felony count of aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer and seven misdemeanor counts after he allegedly topped speeds of 130 mph while fleeing police along NM-518 in Mora.
