HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A man is facing charges after a 2-year-old was found unresponsive at a home in Huntington on May 10, according to the Huntington Police Department. Officers say Deandre Whitfield, 31, of Chicago, is charged with felony child neglect resulting in death. The incident happened in the 300 block of West 9th Avenue. Police say Whitfield found the child unresponsive in a filled bathtub within the home. The child was then taken to the hospital by a neighbor.

A state trooper is recovering at home after he was struck by a car on I-465 early Saturday morning. At about 3:14 a.m., an Indiana State Police trooper was responding to a crash near the 1.5 mile marker on I-465 East on the south side of the city. That segment of the highway is under construction, and concrete barriers block both shoulders. The trooper parked in the left lane to direct traffic away from the crash site, where multiple disabled vehicles awaited towing.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A teen charged with murder in a deadly shooting at a smoke shop in Charleston will now be tried as an adult, according to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office. Bre’jaun Williams-Hampton is charged in the shooting death of 19-year-old Caden Martin on January 30 at the Tobacco and Pipe at 2809 7th Avenue in Charleston. A Kanawha County judge Tuesday ruled that Hampton’s case would be moved to adult status and the case will be presented in front of a grand jury.
