    LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Maine's Cooper Flagg added to his long list of accolades on Thursday night, winning the Gatorade Male Player of the Year award at the ESPY Awards. The award, given to the best male high school athlete for a given school year, comes after the former Nokomis Warrior led Montverde Academy (Fla.) to a 30-0 season this past winter. Notable others to win the award include NBA stars LeBron James, Jayson Tatum and Karl-Anthony Towns.

    BANGOR - The NAC has named Husson softball alum and Brewer native Kenzie Dore as their 2024 Woman of the Year for outstanding, "academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership."Dore was a valedictorian of the class of 2024 with a 4.0 GPA, graduating with both her bachelor's and master's in criminal justice. She did all of this while leading the Eagles to a NAC Championship and taking courses with the University of Maine ROTC.

    CAPE ELIZABETH - John Hayes of Purpoodock Club is the sole leader heading into the final round of the 105th Maine Amateur Championship at his home course. Hayes, who was tied for the lead with Brunswick's Eli Spaulding at -3, shot -4 on the day to pull ahead of Spaulding by two strokes. Tied for third are Michael Arsenault of Val Halla and Ronald Kelton of Purpoodock at even par. Nonesuch River's Peter Malia and Sanford's Benjamin Bell are tied for fifth at +3.

    ORONO - Before Cooper Flagg begins his career at Duke and Ace Flagg his senior year at Montverde Academy (Fla.), the two brothers are giving back to young basketball players in Maine with their own mini-camp. The Cooper and Ace Flagg Basketball Procamp will be held at the University of Maine on August 10th and 11th. The camp is for boys and girls grades one-six and will see the star duo and a number of local coaches teaching the youngsters fundamentals, giving lectures and more.

    ORONO - On Wednesday, University of Maine softball officially introduced Kimberly Stiles as the seventh head coach in program history. "I'm just really excited," Stiles says. "I think this is an amazing opportunity and I am just really looking forward to what we can do here.""She's the hardest worker you're going to see," athletic director Jude Killy says. "She's the first at the field and last one to leave, plus a grinder when it comes to recruiting.
