Cardinal Spellman softball sophomores Avery Barnes and Kiley Dolan are following in the footsteps of their older sisters, who also played for the team. The duo led Spellman to a 15-6 record and the No. 17 seed in the Division 3 state tournament. Both players have battled injuries this season but remain determined to stay on the field. Spellman will face No. 16 Medway in the Round of 32 on Saturday, May 31.

Cardinal Spellman senior Elle Murphy became the all-time leading scorer in school history for both boys and girls lacrosse, surpassing 300 career goals. Murphy scored her 300th goal on Senior Night, assisted by her freshman sister, Maeve. Murphy will play lacrosse at St. Michael's College and plans to pursue a career in psychiatry. The Red Sox traded pitcher Sean Newcomb to the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations. Newcomb, a Massachusetts native, made 12 appearances for Boston this season, including five starts. He signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox in the offseason and briefly joined the starting rotation due to injuries. In a 13-9 victory over East Bridgewater, Murphy led Spellman with 9 goals on the day.
