At a house in the middle of the block a steady stream of people, including one dressed in scrubs, another in professional attire, headed to the top of the driveway, where in a cozy, shaded nook, was a wooden table topped with a strawberry shaped ceramic straw holder and a chalkboard emblazoned with the words, "Thank you for your support" embellished with little chalk hearts.

Five memorial signs honoring fallen soldiers from Monterey County were unveiled in Salinas on Memorial Day. At a ceremony at the PAL building downtown, the five signs were presented by the Monterey County Veterans Day Parade Committee in collaboration with the Office of California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas. "It's important that we as a community honor and recognize and support the families of our fallen service members," said Monterey County Supervisor Wendy Root Askew.
