The Salinas Californian
The Salinas Californian, often called The Californian, is a newspaper available both online and in print, serving the Salinas, California area, especially the Salinas Valley. It was originally established in 1871 under the name The Salinas City Index and has undergone several rebrandings, adopting its current name during World War II. This publication is part of the USA Today Network and is owned by Gannett, which took over its parent company, Speidel Newspapers Inc., in 1977.

Construction began April 8 on a new universal playground at Northgate Neighborhood Park in Salinas. The project is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and is expected to be completed by July 2025.
