MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Alabama Legislature passed two bills Tuesday to regulate vapes and other THC products. One of the bills, sponsored by Rep. Andy Whitt (R-Harvest), would authorize the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to regulate all consumable hemp products, removing them from convenient stores and limiting how much can be bought. “When your able to buy 50 milligrams in Shelby County on Interstate 65 in a slushy machine, we’ve got a true problem.” Rep. Whitt said.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) -The Alabama Senate passed a bill Tuesday to reduce the state sales tax on groceries form 3% to 2%. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Danny Garrett, would give cities and counties more flexibility to reduce local grocery taxes if they choose. It passed the Senate with unanimous consent and will now go to Governor Ivey.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Two more bills designed to improve public safety passed Alabama’s Legislature Tuesday. They’re part of a package of bills supported by Gov. Kay Ivey. The “Safe Alabama” package also includes bills that passed earlier this session outlawing Glock switches on the state level, and funding an expansion of the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit. In her State of the State address, Ivey said bolstering public safety was her number 1 priority this session.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Alabama lawmakers worked late into the night Tuesday to pass the state’s General Fund budget. After a long day at the State House, the Senate adjourned around midnight and the House shortly after. In the Senate, Democrats filibustered for hours, at one point having the General Fund bill read in its entirety. Sen. Rodger Smitherman (D-Birmingham), who led that charge, said he wanted to make sure the voices of his constituents are heard.
