A search and rescue team completed an "intense, technical rescue" in Southern California recently after a hiker became stranded on a steep cliff along the Pacific Crest Trail. The hiker used an emergency communication device to signal for help after she became stuck along the Whitewater portion of the trail near the Riverside-San Bernardino county line, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit posted on Instagram on Monday, along with a video of the rescue.

Sen. Bernie Sanders held his largest rally ever in Los Angeles on Saturday, as part of the "Fighting Oligarchy" tour held by himself and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The rally in downtown Los Angeles drew a crowd of 36,000 people, Sanders' largest yet, according to his communications director, Anna Bahr. Its size was 2,000 more than the Fighting Oligarchy rally held in Denver on March 21, which was also reported as being Sanders' largest at the time.

National Park Service officials have closed multiple trails inside Arizona’s Lake Mead National Recreation Area after one hiker died and 33 others needed to be rescued over the course of two days amid extreme heat conditions. Arizona Hot Springs Trail and Goldstrike Trail are closed as a result of “dangerously high temperatures and multiple heat-related search and rescue incidents,” Lake Mead park service officials announced on social media Thursday.
