A dog owner has picked up a total bill of more than £890 after failing to get her pet microchipped. The prosecution was brought by Dover District Council (DDC) and heard at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday. Richelle Down, 29, of Malmains Road, Dover, was found guilty in her absence of an offence of failure to comply with a notice to microchip a dog. She was fined £220, and ordered to pay costs of £582.50, with a victim surcharge of £88.

Plans to bring an aging theatre back to life are one step closer to becoming a reality after a new partner to take on the renovation was identified. Margate’s Winter Gardens has been shuttered since closing in August 2022. But today, Thanet District Council revealed, following an extensive campaign, they have found a proposed preferred partner to help in the refurbishment and reopening of the 2,000-capacity site.

Police are appealing for information about a missing pensioner. David Nicholson, 77, and was last seen in Lenham, near Maidstone, at around 11.45am today. He is described as being 5ft 9ins, of slim build, with white hair and a beard. He was wearing a cream jumper, black jeans, brown lace up boots, and green and white striped socks. A spokesman said: “Officers are concerned for David’s welfare and are asking residents with CCTV and drivers with dashcam to check for footage of him.

The long-awaited restoration of the Leas Lift has reached its first milestone after two carriages were lifted from the track. A huge crane was used to remove the coaches – each weighing 4.5 tonnes – from the Folkestone landmark , which has been out of use since 2017 following an issue with its braking system. Now the carriages have been removed, it means work can start to bring the Grade II-listed funicular railway, first opened in 1885, back to life.
