    May 29-The Illinois Department of Agriculture is accepting grant proposals to help boost the state's specialty crop industry. Specialty crops include "fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, and horticulture and nursery crops (including floriculture)," according to the department. The department intends during the next three years to distribute more than $679,000 in grant funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Specialty Crop Block Grant.

    May 28-Memorial Health hospitals are giving new parents free infant sleep sacks as a part of a Safe Sleep initiative. Parents who give birth at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville Memorial Hospital and Springfield Memorial Hospital will leave with a sack. The initiative is a part of a program with Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative. While in the hospital, staff teach parents about the safe sleep techniques that help decrease the chances of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

    May 28-One person was injured after a side-by-side overturned while going down a hill on a property in the 2800 block of Literberry Prentice Road northeast of Jacksonville about 5:54 p.m. Tuesday. Morgan County Sheriff Mike Carmody said a passenger of the side-by-side Matthew Saner, 19, of Springfield was flown to an area hospital after the vehicle being driven by a 16-year-old male from Springfield overturned.
