CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A three-judge panel denied an appeal by disbarred Lowcountry attorney Alex Murdaugh on a 40-year prison sentence for financial crimes. Murdaugh was sentenced in April after entering guilty pleas to conspiracy to commit wire and bank fraud, bank fraud, five counts of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and 14 counts of money laundering. A report by federal agents recommended a prison sentence between 17.5 and just under 22 years.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The state’s Insurance Reserve Fund has paid a man more than $100,000 following an alleged misdiagnosis at the Medical University of South Carolina. The lawsuit, filed back in July of 2020 claims that John Roe was being evaluated at MUSC and they noted depression along with a vitamin B-12 deficiency. The victim’s attorneys claim MUSC failed to adequately investigate whether Roe was suffering from a medical condition that would inhibit his body from absorbing vitamin B-12.

LADSON, S.C. (WCSC) - A fight over a parcel of land at the Ladson fairgrounds intended for use for the proposed Lowcountry Rapid Transit System shows no sign of ending months after a fair committee offered a compromise to CARTA. The 21-mile Lowcountry Rapid Transit System project would connect the Ladson, North Charleston and downtown Charleston communities. Right now no deal has been reached on CARTA’s use of land at the Ladson fairgrounds.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District has released less than a tenth of the total pages of a report into an employee’s claims about district leaders and federal funding. Charleston County School District Executive Director of Federal Programs John Cobb sent the Board of Trustees a letter on June 10 in which he made accusations that the district was a hostile work environment.
