Claims by two men acquitted of murder that they knew nothing about a violent and deadly assault on a man they were robbing in rural Tasmania three years ago were "obvious lies", a judge has said. Justice Tamara Jago sentenced Dane Ronald Pyke and Blaise Christopher Baddeley for their roles in the home invasion that left 59-year-old Dean Jupp dead on January 23, 2022. Both men were accused of murder, but after a month-long trial they were found not guilty of that charge on March 28.

The co-accused in the alleged violent murder of Tasmanian man Dean Jupp has told a court he went to the man's property to help friends steal guns, but denied being involved in the man's death. Blaise Christopher Baddeley gave evidence in his own defence, saying he "didn't want to be rude" when he agreed to help steal guns from Mr Jupp's property in 2022. On Wednesday, Mr Baddeley's co-accused, Dane Ronald Pyke, also began telling the jury his own version of events.
