The wall of an "unregistered" dam built in north-eastern Tasmania nearly a century ago has been assessed as "critically compromised", leaving locals concerned about a possible breach. Flood modelling by engineers shows that a failure of the Pioneer Dam's wall could inundate nearby roads with floodwaters reaching depths of 2.3–3 metres within an hour.

Tasmania relies on volunteer ambulance officers to respond to emergencies in regional areas and assist paramedics, but volunteering is declining. There are 11 ambulance stations around the state that are operated by volunteers only, including Flinders Island and King Island. The paramedics' union is calling on the Tasmanian government to focus on recruiting more paramedics, increase pay and improve working conditions.

A conservation group on Tasmania's east coast has been trying to restore a beachside wetland since the 1980s, but has had its hard work trampled by deer, time and time again. Deer were introduced to Tasmania in 1836 as a hunting resource, and despite a significant population boom are not considered an invasive species in Tasmania. The Seymour Community Action Group is lobbying the state government to better resource deer control in the area.
