The State of New York has adopted a first-in-the-nation requirement that employers provide twenty hours of paid leave per year as a stand-alone leave benefit for pregnant employees. The New York State Department of Labor (NYDOL) has clarified that this new requirement takes effect on January 1, 2025, and confirmed that it is separate from and unrelated to other types of paid family or sick leave benefits established under New York State law.
