When a patient is incorrectly diagnosed, they can be left in unnecessary pain, and NHS trusts across the country have had to pay out millions in compensation over the past few years. Figures obtained by Medical Negligence Assist found that, since 2019, North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has had to pay out nearly £10m to patients who have lodged claims following a misdiagnosis.

A grandma who never thought she’d run again, and a brain tumour survivor battling back to health, were among the recent graduates from a free Fenland ‘couch to 5k’ running programme – and you could be in the next cohort. A near-octogenarian seasoned marathon runner, who found the support and encouragement of a friendly sociable group motivating, was also among the Active Fenland group, many of whom never expected to progress from walking the route.

A man who stole more than £1,000 worth of alcohol from a Fenland supermarket has been jailed. Lee Joseph, 52, targeted Sainsbury’s in March, six times between February 20 and March 10. On one occasion, Joseph was confronted by staff who recovered a bottle of vodka, but he had stashed two other bottles in his trousers. He was arrested in Springfield Avenue, March, on March 23, in connection with three thefts from Co-op, in Badgeney Road, March, between March 20 and March 23.

Villagers are being asked to get behind an exciting project to regenerate a playground for children to enjoy. Doddington Recreation Committee’s playground subcommittee has announced its plans to regenerate the Benwick Road playground. The move comes after a health and safety assessment revealed that some of the existing equipment is nearing the end of its life.

New free sessions have been added to a broad programme of no-cost and low-cost social and fitness sessions for all in Fenland. More free family running sessions and a social sports reminiscence-based group for older people have been added to Fenland District Council’s Active Fenland programme.
