The $2.8 million revitalization is complete at Larry Doby Field at Eastside Park in Paterson. The city held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday for the renovated field. Calling it a “field of dreams,” officials celebrated the new facility with a special event. "Whenever they step up to the plate, they gotta think about Larry Doby, his legacy, his leadership," said Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh. The field is home to the Eastside High School baseball team, where Larry Doby was an alumnus.

A nonprofit in Essex County is focusing on educating new and future moms about child care ahead of Mother's Day. Franciscan Charities in Newark had about 30 parents in its family program in 2018 - that number has now grown to over 150 families. "The need is growing, and education is so important for these young moms.

"Every teacher puts in hours, we put our hearts into the work we do, and having recognition like this is just mind-blowing because you just feel really seen," said teacher Stephanie Lachenauer. Lachenauer is the 2024-2025 New Jersey State Teacher of The Year. She works at Montgomery Upper Middle School. Since an early age she knew education was her calling.

Newark Liberty International Airport is experiencing hundreds of flight delays and cancellations due to construction and staffing issues. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, more than 400 flights were delayed as of Thursday evening and more than 200 were canceled. As of Friday morning, nine flights were delayed, and 14 flights were canceled. The FAA says that a shortage of air traffic controllers is one reason for the slowdown.

Two homes on Boudinot Street were left uninhabitable by the fire. Residents came back today to see the damage and collect belongings. The homeowner next door was at work when the fire began. "I got a phone call saying a fire started next door and they heard a loud explosion," says Tyreka Thomas. Thomas ran home but was stopped by the emergency response. "I really couldn't get up here.
