Last month's mid-air collision near Washington, D.C., was the first fatal American commercial air disaster since shortly after 10 p.m. on February 12, 2009, when Colgan Air Flight 3407 fell out of the sky and crashed into a house near Buffalo, New York. It was the 14th fatal crash of a U.S. airliner in 15 years, but the 2009 disaster would become a turning point in American aviation.

AbstractThe Par complex regulates cell polarity in diverse animal cells, but how its localization is restricted to a specific membrane domain remains unclear. We investigate how the tumor suppressor Lethal giant larvae (Lgl) regulates Par complex polarity in Drosophila neural stem cells (NSCs). Unlike in epithelial cells, where Lgl and the Par complex show mutual exclusion, in NSCs the Par complex is apically polarized while Lgl is cytoplasmic during mitosis.

AbstractAims To determine the impact of microorganism virulence on visual outcomes in endophthalmitis. Methods Retrospective, multicentre cohort study of patients presenting with endophthalmitis between 2006 and 2021. A literature review was conducted to divide cultured microorganisms into low and high virulence subcategories. Results 610 eyes with endophthalmitis were recruited from New Zealand, the UK and Israel. The median age was 69.4 years.
