    The Election Commission of lndia today announced the schedule for the by-elections for two vacant MLC seats in Telangana under the MLAs' quota. The seats fell vacant following the resignations of Kadiam Srihari and Padi Kaushik Reddy who have recently been elected to the State Legislative Assembly. As per the schedule, the notification for the by-elections is scheduled to be released on January 11, the last date for filing nominations is January 18, and scrutiny will be held on January 19.

    The YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) was merged with the Congress in New Delhi today. The founder-president of the party Y S Sharmila joined the Congress at around 10:55 am. She was welcomed into the Congress by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi. Several other leaders of the YSRTP also joined the Congress along with Sharmila. AICC leaders K C Venugopal and Manickam Tagore, APCC president Gidugu Rudraraju and Koppula Raju were present on the occasion.
