Ryan Searle was left looking for a new hotel after dumping Peter Wright out of the Betfred World Matchplay. The Englishman was only booked into his accommodation in Blackpool until Friday, but now needs to find somewhere to stay after beating world number two Wright 11-8 to set up a quarter-final with Wales' Jonny Clayton that night. Searle told Sky Sports: "I’m going to have to try to book a hotel now because I’m meant to be leaving on Friday.

Ireland were beaten 89-49 by the world number 25 ranked side Croatia in their FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Pre-Qualifiers Round 3 opener in Opatija. Neal Quinn impressed on his international debut with 12 points, and there were plenty of positives including the return from injury of John Carroll and a strong second half, where they outscored their opponents in the third quarter. Ireland started well with a layup from 7ft centre Quinn, to take an early 2-0 lead.

Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle worth £12m plus add-ons to sell Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq. The 33-year-old is believed to have reached a verbal agreement with the club – who are now managed by former Anfield team-mate Steven Gerrard – over a reported wage of £700,000 a week. Female inter-county players have suspended their protest for 2023 after securing commitments from the LGFA and Camogie Association on the development of a Player Charter for 2024, which will be backed by the GAA. In a statement the GPA hailed the agreement as a "landmark moment" for women's sport in Ireland. The players' body announced that the framework had been agreed following what it described as "constructive" meetings with the LGFA and Camogie Association.

Manchester City have accepted a bid worth up to £30m for Riyad Mahrez from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli. Mahrez is thought to have joined the Jeddah-based Saudi Pro League outfit on a three-year contract. Exeter Chiefs have confirmed the signing of former Munster lock Eoin O'Connor. The Waterford native departed Munster at the end of the 2022/23 season and is set to bolster the Irish contingent at the Premiership side, who also have former Leinster pair Jack Dunne and Rory O'Loughlin on their books. O'Connor was one of several academy players to make their Munster debuts in the Champions Cup win against Wasps in December 2021, when the squad had been decimated by a Covid-19 outbreak.
