REDMOND, Ore. -- May will be National Historic Presentation Month, and what better place to spotlight it than a look at the history of the Petersen Rock Garden just outside of Redmond. "When he was 18 years old, Rasmus Peterson and his brother came to the U.S. It’s thought they were some of the original immigrants that came through Ellis Island. In 1905, Ramus purchased the property the rock garden sits on through the Desert Preservation Act and turned it into a successful farm.

Bachelor took the spotlight, the old Skyliners site is again drawing attention—this time through the work of longtime Oregon ski historian Steve Stenkamp. Stenkamp has spent the past six years researching and documenting Oregon’s forgotten ski areas. His efforts culminated in a recently published book chronicling 57 former ski sites across the state.

BEND, Ore. -- I recently found out that the High Desert Museum opened an exhibit called “Patterns at Play – Fractals in Nature.” And I freaked. I immediately needed to see it with my own eyes. So what are fractals and why was I so excited? Well, first of all, fractals were first discovered not in nature, but at the dawn of the computer age. And before there were fractals, there was a man named Benoit Mandelbrot and the Mandelbrot set.
