    BELOIT, WI (WTVO/WQRF) — Echedry Vargas blasted a two-run home run in the fifth inning for the Beloit Sky Carp, but it wasn’t enough. They lost to the Fort Wayne TinCaps 4-2 Tuesday night in a game that was shortened to six innings by rain. The Sky Carp managed only two hits. Vargas’ homer and a bunt single by Jacob Jenkins-Cowart. Emmett Olson took the loss. The Sky Carp’s starting pitcher allowed four runs in 4.2 innings on the mound. He struck out six batters.

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Boylan’s Matt Weber recently became the school’s all-time winningest baseball coach. That’s according to school officials. Weber’s record at the end of this season now stands at 265-139-3 over the course of 12 seasons as the Titans’ head coach. That’s two more wins than former coach Greg Marinelli won during his tenure in the 1970s and early ’80s. The Titans just completed a 21-win season. They were 14-4 in NIC-10 play.

    STERLING, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Dakota Indians have only one senior on their roster, but that hasn’t stopped them from advancing to the IHSA 1A State Softball Tournament. Monday afternoon the Indians edged Henry-Senachwine 2-0 to win the Sterling Super-Sectional. Sophomore Hailey Kerchner had a pair of doubles. One in the top of the first inning gave Dakota the only two runs of the game. Sophomore pitcher AJ Howarth took care of the rest. She pitched a shutout allowing only four hits to the Mallards.

    LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — It won’t go down as the most artistic win for the Rivets, but they’ll take it. They defeated the Kenosha Kingfish 14-9 Monday in their series opener at Rivets Stadium. The Rivets scored four runs in the bottom of the first for a 4-0 lead. They then fell behind 6-4 in the top of the third when the Kingfish exploded.

    DEKALB, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Northern Illinois University has one football player in the College Football Hall of Fame. Next year that number could double. Former quarterback Jordan Lynch has been nominated for induction. Lynch finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting his senior year in 2013 after he set five NCAA records and 25 school records. That season Lynch led NIU to wins over Big Ten opponents Iowa and Purdue.
