    For the second year in a row, Perth County residents will see a double-digit tax increase. Perth County council has approved its 2025 budget, with an 11.34 per cent increase from last year. That will work out to an extra $103.32 on a typical homeowner’s tax bill, say Perth County officials. It’s less than last year’s tax increase, which was more than 12 per cent.

    Kincardine is marking a million-dollar milestone. The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has raised $10 million towards its “Building Health Care for Generations” campaign. The money is being used to give the Kincardine hospital its first expansion in 35 years. A brand-new emergency department and MRI machine and medical imaging department are the two highlights of the redevelopment plan.

    When the advance polls open later this week in Perth County, Sisay Legesse Megasi will vote in Canada for the first time, and he’s excited about it. “Of course. Absolutely I am excited. Yes, yes,” said the native of Ethiopia. Megasi is one of many new Canadians who will be taking advantage of the Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron’s “voting van” to get to the polling station. It’s a new venture to try and help newcomers experience democracy, some for the first time.

    The world’s largest nuclear station says it is ‘Canadian at our Core’ as it nears the midpoint of a multi-billion dollar refurbishment project. Bruce Power is promoting it’s nearly all Canadian supply chain as part of program highlighting Ontario’s energy security. Bruce Power says 95 per cent of the money it spends on operating the it’s eight unit nuclear fleet near Kincardine is spent on Canadian supplies, technology, and employees.

    The state of emergency has come to an end in West Grey, but the fight isn’t over. West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles officially ended a state of emergency in the community today. The state of emergency was declared on March 28, 2024 in regards to cuts to the Durham Hospital. Durham’s Emergency Department hours were cut last March from 24 hour coverage to 10 hours, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weeks later, it was announced that Durham was losing all of it’s 10 inpatient beds.
