London has lost its seat at the federal cabinet table. Arielle Kayabaga was dropped from Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet after a short-lived appointment as the Minister of Democratic Institutions. The move leaves southwestern Ontario unrepresented. “I do think that it is really important, not just for London, but for the entire southwestern region, to have a seat at the cabinet table and make sure that we are champion,” Kayabaga told CTV News on March 17.

A photo of a London homicide victim and her child resonates with them a decade and a half after her murder. “That picture with her and me has been hanging in my room for the past 16 years since she died. So, it’s something that I look at every day,” said JC Leckie in an interview with CTV News London. The photo of Lisa Leckie is now part of a billboard circulating through several displays in London.

Multiple simulated emergencies played out on the grounds of Fanshawe College today. The annual event expanded to include disaster scenes occurring within minutes of each other during a severe weather event. Intially. an SUV flipped over near the Cheapside St. entrance to the college. Soon afterwards, a mass casualty was heard over the radio. Emergency responders, already stretched by the earlier calls, arrived to find dozens of people injured by lightning.

The cleanup from a sudden and powerful windstorm continues throughout the area. A few pockets of our region remain without power. One of the hardest hit areas is the Byron neighbourhood in London, Ont., where chainsaws are a common sight. By most accounts, the hardest-hit street is Southfield Crescent. There were five homes struck by fallen trees. No one was hurt, although a resident told CTV News London she was in her parked SUV out front when a tree fell.
