Ireland is expected to experience the hottest day of the year today with temperatures forecast to reach 29C. Yesterday saw temperatures ramp up to 27C in Roscommon. While 29C is enough to spark widespread disruption in places like Ireland and the UK, for many holiday hotspots in Europe, this temperature can feel quite pleasant. While temperatures above 30C might feel like a breeze in Spain, Portugal or Italy, the same temperature can feel unbearable at home.

As the country prepares for a heatwave with temperatures expected to reach 29C, many people will be taking to the water to cool down and enjoy the good weather. However, the Galway RNLI have issued caution to those heading out to sea or just going for a quick swim. Speaking to Galway Bay FM, Linda Gene-Byrne, RNLI Regional Water Safety Lead, urged people to swim where there is a lifeguard on duty.

Monday is set to see temperatures range from 17C to 22C, according to Met Éireann, and experts have warned that 1-2% of petrol and diesel could evaporate during extreme heat, according to BristolLive.

Met Éireann has updated its weather warnings for 19 counties to new alerts. Previously, these counties had been hit with a Yellow Thunderstorm Warning; however, this has now been diminished to a rain warning. The affected counties include Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Leinster, Waterford, Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.
