    From homicides, to shootings and car break-ins, Oakland police say crime is trending down. Even amid signs of progress, people have still reported about 20 car break-ins on average every day this year, according to the Oakland Police Department’s (OPD) CrimeWatch database. But one might miss that detail when looking at the department’s weekly crime summary posted on its website. For instance, OPD’s crime reports show 10 car break-ins during the week of April 8, 2024.

    Office vacancies in San Francisco reached an all-time high in the first quarter of 2024, but there are signs the market has reached a turning point, according to preliminary data released by real estate firm CBRE. The vacancy rate reached 36.6% in the first three months of 2024, up 1% from the final quarter of 2023. Compared to one year ago, the vacancy rate grew by nearly 12%.
