AbstractChanges in metabolic activity in tumor cells is one of the hallmarks of cancer. Cancer cells exhibit the Warburg effect with high glucose consumption for their energy needs. This provides the basis for imaging using 18F-2-deoxy-D-glucose for positron emission tomography to assess tumor burden and response to therapy.

AbstractWe investigated the prevalence of rare inherited pathogenic variants (PV) in 19 cancer predisposition genes regularly included on multi-gene panel testing based on NCCN guidelines and their association with the risk of lymphoid malignancies (LM) overall and by common lymphoma subtypes and multiple myeloma. The study population included newly diagnosed LM cases (N = 6990) and unrelated controls (N = 42,632), excluding individuals with a history of hematologic malignancy.

An under-recognized source of bleeding in Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is the development of an acquired von Willebrand syndrome (AVWS) [1]. In WM, the von Willebrand Factor (vWF) glycoprotein can be degraded due to autoantibody destruction, increased shear stress due to hyperviscosity, or sequestered due to adsorption onto malignant cells, leading to the development of AVWS (AVWS-WM) [1, 2].
