Former Rockford Police Officer arrested, facing domestic violence charges

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) – Off-duty Rockford Police Officer, Tyler Helgerson has been arrested by Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies on domestic violence charges. According to court documents, on November 14 deputies responded to the 4200 block of Buckingham Drive around 10:30 p.m. after Helgerson called 911 and said a woman who was suicidal had a gun. Once on the scene, deputies found her handcuffed in a bedroom with scrapes and cuts on her body.
Former high school football coach pleads guilty to child pornography charges

STEPHENSON CO., Ill. — After being charged with multiple felony child pornography charges, former Dakota High School Football Coach Daniel Sheets plead guilty inside a Stephenson County courtroom. Sheets was arrested in August 2023 at a home in Davis Junction after a felony arrest warrant was issued. According to court records, sheets is due back in court for sentencing on December 18.
Freeport Police find 23-year-old fatally shot inside bedroom of home

FREEPORT, Ill -- The Freeport Police Department is investigating a homicide after finding 23-year-old Jace Glasgow dead in a bedroom on Saturday around 6 p.m. According to the Freeport Police Department, officers were sent to a home in the 1400 block of Mark Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Glasgow with gunshot wounds. The Freeport Police Department is investigating the incident. No suspects have been arrested or named at this time.
Rockford man killed in Saturday morning motorcycle crash identified by county coroner's office

UPDATE -- The Winnebago County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 27 year-old Cristian Ahumada-Pena. According to the coroner's office, Ahumada-Pena was driving his motorcycle westbound on East State Street going toward Phelps Avenue. At the same time, a car pulled out of the mobile gas station onto East State Street and Ahumada-Pena hit the side of the car. First responders that were called to the scene determined that Ahumada-Pena was beyond being resuscitated.

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- An investigation is underway on 31st Street after a standoff incident, according to a social media post by the Rockford Police Department. Police have a large presence in the 1100 block of 31st Steet. Officer were able to use de-escalation strategies and negotiated a peaceful surrender. The Rockford Police Department is asking the public to avoid the area until the investigation is complete.

DeKalb, Ill. -- A DeKalb man threatened to assassinate State Representative Jeff Keicher at DeKalb High School, according to court documents. On July 15, Forrest Brandon, 58, DeKalb, left a threating voicemail on Rep. Keicher's office voicemail. Brandon said he may assassinate Rep. Keicher for being involved in partisan event. The event was a senior fair at DeKalb High School scheduled for July 18. According to court documents, Brandon's voicemail said, "Yeah, yes sir, my name is Forrest Brandon.
Rockford man arrested after police say he shot at a KFC employee

ROCKFORD, Ill. — A Rockford Man is behind bars after police say he shot at a KFC employee on Wednesday. Daniel Baker, 33, has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon According to the Rockford Police Department, officers responded to the KFC on Kilburn Avenue for reports of a shooting victim. Once they arrived, officers were advised that a male KFC employee was shot after an altercation with Baker.
Freeport man arrested and released after threating to shoot Walmart Security guards

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) -- A Freeport man was arrested after threating to shoot to two Walmart security guards Tuesday evening, according to a criminal complaint filed in Winnebago County. According to the factual summary, an aspect of the criminal complaint, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Walmart Security told Abdulameer Abdulameer to leave the property but he refused to do so and instead threaten to shoot the security guards while grabbing at his waist band.
