CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Lee County School District says Island Coast High School experienced a sprinkler system failure which led to flooding and an early dismissal on Thursday. According to the school's principal, all students and staff were safely evacuated. The school will provide another update once more information is available.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell has been appointed to Florida's Immigration Enforcement Council. Florida House Speaker David Perez made the announcement on Tuesday. The council was created by Senate Bill 2C, which was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday, February 13th.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Cape Coral Police Department says a nurse has been arrested for child neglect - after failing to feed a child in her care. On September 14, 2024, a local mother says she was told that her child had low blood sugar and drank all of their nighttime bottles. That nurse, according to investigators is Kelly Perrigo, a licensed practical nurse . The mother said they usually have day and night nurses - and all nurses work 12-hour shifts.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A man has been arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide and DUI manslaughter following a crash that claimed the life of a Sarasota County man. Troopers say just after 8:05 p.m on Wednesday, FHP responded to a multi-vehicle crash on El Jobean Bridge (SR 776) in Charlotte County. Investigators say the driver of a Hyundai was traveling south on the bridge at a high rate of speed - ultimately sideswiping a Ford Explorer and colliding with the back of a Nissan Versa.

SOUTHWEST, Fla. — If you're still trying to figure out your parking situation at Southwest Florida International Airport ahead of the upcoming Christmas holiday, RSWRemote might be an option for you. The service provides parking located on the north side of the airport. The Lee County Port Authority says RSWRemote will be accepting cars to enter for parking from Friday, December 20th at 3 a.m. through Wednesday, December 25th at noon.

FORT MYERS, Fla — A man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he was found guilty of molesting a child in her bed. In October 2023, the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a home in reference to a sexual offense. Officers met with the child victim - who said she was molested by Yosvind Alecsay Bernardo Maldonado in her bed. She woke up crying during the incident, and was able to identify Maldonado when police arrived.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Cape Coral Police Department says a local Tik Toker has been arrested for stealing from Target. On October 30th, Target says an unknown woman entered the store and picked up items for purchase. While at the self-checkout, the suspect did not scan the items' barcodes, according to the department. Instead, police say she used a fake barcode with cheaper prices. Sixteen household goods and pieces of clothing were stolen- totaling a loss valued at just over $500.
