There comes a time when pre-teens are old enough to do their own laundry. For some reason, washing clothes had become an every-other-day task at our house. So early this year I started including the laundry in the boys’ regular chores. I figured if they are old enough to fold their clothes and place them in the drawers, they can certainly wash them too. After all, this is a life skill they will have to learn at some point. I guess I was trying to prevent the ‘Fred situation’ in their college years.

Did you know that most commercial tomato sauces and soups contain added sugar? Even ones touted as being healthy choices contain added sugar, either in the form of cane sugar or in glucose/ fructose form. I'm not anti-sugar, but I prefer it in my desserts - not my spaghetti. There's a reason for the added sugar, and that is that tomatoes are acidic little orbs.

It's inevitable. While teaching a seminar — it doesn't matter what topic, 'Hand Jobs', 'Menopausal Sex', 'How to Fix Your Tractor 101' (kidding...but I'm sure it would happen)--one brave soul raises their hand and asks, “Can you tell me how to find the G-Spot?”This is where I gulp down a big sigh, try to keep the smile on my face and answer their question — I am after all a sex educator and it's my job to educate people about these kinds of things.

I don't know what it's like where you are, but where I live the mornings are cold and frosty, and even the sunny afternoons feel cold. I love a lot of things about fall - the boots and sweaters and scarves, the colours of the leaves against the bright blue skies, cups of cinnamon tea and the urge to bake everything. The thing I don't like about fall - other than it's the brief segue into a long winter - is that I'm cold.

Every December, the walls of our wood paneled family room would become an art gallery of sorts, complete with images of wreaths, snow capped mountains, reindeer, and the baby Jesus. As soon as the snow started to fall, my mom would run lengths of yarn wall-to-wall, and secure it in place with thumb tacks. As the greeting cards arrived in the mailbox, they were opened, read and hung on display, at least until mid-January.

Looking at my camera roll, you’d think I was making a documentary on the incredible adventures of my husband and children. On weekend walks and even at bedtime I snap photos of them playing, reading, holding hands and laughing. I usually manage to get a few with great backgrounds, good lighting and everyone’s best angles. If I’m in a photo, it’s generally an unflattering selfie or half my face covered by someone’s hair but that’s ok. The memory is captured.

Oct 12 2023 Whether I'm baking for my children's school functions, birthday parties, or my daughter's recent Christmas Caroling Party, I love creating fun and easy treats that bring smiles to my children's (and their friends') faces. The key is EASY, and I have quickly learned that just because something looks Pinterest-worthy doesn't mean it has to take hours and hours of work.

Do you only use your car's air conditioning in the summer? Many drivers think that they will prolong its life if they don't use it that often. However, the opposite may be true. One of the purposes of air conditioning is to provide dry air. Fog happens when water condenses on the window. In the winter, keep your car's temperature setting to hot and turn on the air conditioning. You'll see that defrosting your front windshield is that much faster.
