PERRY, Okla. — It was meant to be a routine traffic stop. Trooper Charlie Hanger noticed that the yellow vehicle that Timothy McVeigh was driving along I-35 did not have a registration tag. It was April 19th, 1995 and Hanger said McVeigh was acting suspicious. He ended up arresting him for carrying a concealed weapon, only to learn hours later that the man he put in cuffs, was responsible for killing 168 people and injuring more than 600 others.

TULSA, Okla. — The family of Terri Schlatter said she dealt with a lot in her young life. She was a young mother who got involved early on in some legal trouble with her husband, Darrell Schlatter. Both were charged with federal bank fraud, with Terri later becoming a witness for the state against Darrell. 2 News spoke with Terri’s sister, Kerri Yingst, about the circumstances leading up to the day that Terri and her one-year-old son, Nathan, went missing.

MCINTOSH COUNTY — The skeletal remains of a man who’s been missing since December were discovered in a body of water in McIntosh County on April 14. 2 News has been closely following the story of Zach Smith Sr. after he disappeared from Osage County. Local News Smith went missing Dec. 8, 2024, and his luxury car was later found in McIntosh County, and his personal items, including legal documents, were found in Okmulgee County in a box at a local business.

BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. — The family of Dakota Covington reached out to 2 News after human remains were discovered February 21st in Bryan County. They believe the remains could belong to their son. It’s a painful journey the Covington family has walked for four years. Dakota disappeared on April 29, 2021. “His dad had called her and said he had seen Dakota that morning when he left for work, but when he got home he wasn’t there,” said Felicity Covington.
