For the eighth time since 2011, the Texans found themselves in a familiar time slot to kick off the NFL's opening playoff game. Familiar territory. Entering Saturday afternoon's tilt at NRG Stadium as a three-point home underdog, also familiar territory. In 13 playoff games in franchise history, the Texans have been the underdog eight times. Among those, the Texans have hosted a game in the wild-card round eight times and have been favored to win just four of those, having actually won all of them.

If I told you this was going to be rock bottom for the Texans this season, would you believe me? Would you take it? After a deflating 32-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans (aka fake Oilers) Sunday afternoon, the Texans (7-5) still have another two divisional games ahead of them, one of which is next weekend against Jacksonville. The other, week 18, is against the same team that just handed them their most recent loss.

The idea that the Texans were entering Thursday night's tilt in the Meadowlands as two-point road underdogs to a then 2-6 New York Jets football team had people all across the country miffed. The fact that the Jets (3-6) ended up covering the spread has got to have Texans fans at the very least, beside themselves. Thursday night was one of the weirdest, wild and whacky games I've seen the Texans (6-3) involved in that made me say 'WTF' way too many times.

It's hard to believe that the most recent matchup between the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts could've resulted in a tie between the two division foes atop the AFC South. Instead, the Texans (6-2) found a way to pull out another close game while once again leaning on the defense to keep the proverbial door shut.

While CJ Stroud engineered another efficient 60 minutes of football, throwing for three touchdown passes and a 100.5 passer rating without Nico Collins, the Texans got a much needed boost offensively with the ground game. Not only did the Texans win at Foxboro for the first time in the 23-year history of the franchise, but they showed that successfully running the football might just be something else in their arsenal after all.
