    Downtown Emporia was alive with music on Friday and Saturday evenings during the annual Halfway to Everywhere music festival. Founded by Kansas Free for Arts Executive Director and Emporia Granada Theatre interim Director Hank Osterhout, Halfway to Everywhere brings a two-day festival-style series of concerts right to Emporia. With artists from all over the country, this year’s H2E festival featured three stages and 19 bands or musicians for attendees to choose from.

    A large crowd was out enjoying the weather, vintage cars and aircraft of all types Saturday morning at the Emporia Municipal Airport’s annual Wings and Wheels Show. The Area Experimental Aircraft Association served breakfast throughout the event while children ages eight through 17 enjoyed free plane rides through the Young Eagles Flights program and planes and antique vehicles were on display from members of the Emporia Flying Club and Flatland Cruisers.

    The Emporia Senior Center has opened a new chapter. With a new interim director, new board of directors and an expansion of new and existing services and activities, the senior center is at a turning point following years of financial pitfalls. Seniors, their families and community members of all ages packed into the center Saturday afternoon for bingo, filling up the center’s parking lot which has long been empty.     The St. Mark’s Lutheran Church raised funds for Emporia State University’s student food pantry, Corky’s Cupboard, through its second annual Car Show fundraiser Sunday afternoon. Pastor Kent Happel said the fundraiser went well, bringing in car enthusiasts from Emporia and Topeka.

    Whether you prefer Donkey Kong or Young Link, there’s a monitor for you at Lyon’s Den. The Lyon's Den is a Super Smash Bros tournament held monthly at the Lyon County History Center. The tournament offers friendly matches and bracket play to gamers of all skill levels. Emporians Noah Lozano, Anyssa Hammond and Cody Cannon created the Lyon’s Den in June after Hammond, who works as the LCHC’s social media manager, ran the idea by Executive and Deputy Directors Greg Jordan and Lisa Soller.
