    Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County was the site of a protest against the current White House administration on Saturday. The action was part of a nationwide protest organized by the Resistance Rangers. The grassroots activist group reported protests were held at at least 145 sites from Acadia in Maine to Joshua Tree in California. None of the protests, including the one held at Tallgrass, were endorsed by the National Park Service.

The William Allen White Children’s Book Award is the oldest statewide children’s book award in the United States. Established in 1952 by the late Ruth Garver Gagliardo, a children’s literature specialist at Emporia State University, the program’s mission is to encourage the children of Kansas to read and enjoy good books.

    From antique furniture to clothing to books to collectibles, the annual rummage sale at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church had something for everyone. Held on Friday and Saturday, the sale raised just over $8,000. Co-organizer Karla Edmiston said the rummage sale is a big undertaking but worth the effort. “It’s a huge amount of work, but it’s also such a good project for us to work on together and to provide low-cost items to the community,” Edmiston said.

K-State Lyon County Extension Agent Travis Carmichael said the picnic is a chance to gather together and express gratitude before the busyness of the fair begins. “The Friends of 4-H Picnic is our chance to say ‘thank you’ to 4-H sponsors and supporters,” he said.
