United Way of the Flint Hills celebrated a successful fundraising campaign at the annual Community Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 22. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County was the site of a protest against the current White House administration on Saturday. The action was part of a nationwide protest organized by the Resistance Rangers. The grassroots activist group reported protests were held at at least 145 sites from Acadia in Maine to Joshua Tree in California. None of the protests, including the one held at Tallgrass, were endorsed by the National Park Service.

Enthusiastic young readers gathered at Emporia State University on Saturday to celebrate the 72nd Annual William Allen White Children’s Book Award. The William Allen White Children’s Book Award is the oldest statewide children’s book award in the United States. Established in 1952 by the late Ruth Garver Gagliardo, a children’s literature specialist at Emporia State University, the program’s mission is to encourage the children of Kansas to read and enjoy good books.
