NAVARRE BEACH, Fla. (WALA) - Three separate beach houses caught fire after multiple lightning strikes on Navarre Beach Wednesday morning. The Navarre Beach Fire Rescue chief said it was a violent storm with lightning bolts popping off all around them as they fought the fires. They had to bring in some major back up too. The Midway Fire District, Navarre Beach Fire Rescue, Holly Navarre Fire, Escambia County, Gulf Breeze Fire Department and Okaloosa County all assisted.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -The bill banning cellphones in Alabama’s public schools is now law. Gov. Kay Ivey signed the Focus Act. It’s been mixed bag of opinions from parents. Most are fine with banning phone use in school calling it distracting. But some are worried their kids won’t be able to reach them in an emergency. “I think it’s a good thing,” said one grandmother. Parents are letting their voices be heard on social media and in the park.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A Clarke County man owns a horse that’s running in the Kentucky Derby, also known as the most exciting two minutes in sports. Robbie Norman and his horse Coal Battle have a pretty interesting story. The horse is a long shot, but stranger things have happened on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs. And even with the odds stacked against him, Norman is betting it all on Coal Battle. Norman went to school to be an accountant. Then, he bought his own grocery stores.
