The Elk Valley Regional RCMP detachment has provided information on its police presence in the area of the Fernie Hospital on Thursday, May 8. Mounties say they received a call from the hospital about a local man driving to the site with a firearm, threatening to harm himself. Mounties say the suspect is known to police, and officers worked to search the area, leading to them containing a section along 2 Avenue in Fernie.

Cranbrook street sweeping crews have moved operations on residential streets to Zone 2 East, which is from 10 Street South to 23 Street South between 12 Avenue South and Victoria Avenue, for the next few days. To help crews do the best cleanup job possible, residents are asked to make every effort to park off street on all these priority routes for the next few weeks.

May 111:00 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 621/RR 83 – Member on patrol located a wildfire south of Hwy 621. Firefighters responded to deal with the fire, and luckily a firefighting helicopter crew were passing through the area and able to assist. 3:17 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Members responded to a report that an SUV had driven into the post office. Members determined that the driver had parked on the east side and hit the building after her foot slid off the brake and onto the accelerator.
