    Deutsche Bahn is completely overhauling the Riedbahn – the Mannheim-Frankfurt line that is among the busiest in Germany. Unlike previous infrastructure improvement projects, the decision made here was to fully close the line, rather than to overhaul it piecemeal. Transport Minister Volker Wissing said during the opening ceremony at InnoTrans 2024 that by closing the line fully to do the refurbishments, the work would take just five months.

    Siemens Mobility has been awarded a contract from Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) to introduce a Communications-Based Train Control System (CBTC) on metro lines U5 and U8 in Berlin. The Trainguard MT CBTC solution will enable semi-automated operation (GoA2) on the U5 line by 2029 and on the U8 line by 2032. This will increase the capacity of these lines by around 30%, with the technology allowing headways of less than 100 seconds between trains.

    Siemens Mobility is investing around 150 million EUR in expanding its digital service depot for trains in Dortmund, Germany. Thanks to this investment, the depot in Dortmund-Eving will be expanded to 87,550 m² to meet the growing demand for rail services. Plans include constructing an additional 12,300 m² service hall with storage, offices, and workshops. This site will be able to handle the maintenance of trains up to 400 metres long.

    Brightline West has selected Siemens Mobility as the preferred bidder to manufacture its high-speed trains. The contract with Siemens Mobility will include the production of ten American Pioneer 220 (AP 220) train sets to be delivered to Nevada for testing. This will pave the way for the start of the Brightline West service between Las Vegas and Southern California from 2028.
