OTTAWA, ON - Canada's federal government provided $29.6 billion in financial support to the oil and gas industry in 2024, according to a new analysis by Environmental Defence. The analysis, published on April 3rd, took stock of direct grants, tax breaks, loans and loan guarantees from the federal government and its Crown corporations to the oil and gas and petrochemical industries. The 2024 tally is about $11 billion higher than 2023.

SMITHERS, B.C. - Three Indigenous protesters who blocked the construction of the Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline, which starts in Dawson Creek, may not be sentenced until November after being found guilty of contempt of court. During a Thursday, April 3rd hearing at B.C. Supreme Court in Smithers, Justice Michael Tammen said his schedule and the time needed for pre-sentencing reports have delayed the three-day hearing until fall.

JOHN, B.C. - Fort St. John residents who prefer to pay their bills online via My City Hall can now do so again. As of Wednesday, April 2nd at 4:00 p.m., the online platform has been restored to full functionality by city staff.
