If you weren't around when the celebrated civil rights meeting place Paschal's sold 50-cent sweet tea and $2 fried chicken sandwiches, Saturday will be like 1970 all over again. The historic downtown Atlanta restaurant is part of Peacock's Aug. 24 promotion of its upcoming Atlanta-filmed series Fight Night: Million Dollar Heist, starring Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Jenson. Don Cheadle and Terrence Howard, which premieres on Sept. 5.

May 24 at Symphony Hall, the Atlanta Jazz Festival presents WCLK At 50 featuring Lil John Roberts with an Atlanta All-Star Band - and such an occasion doesn't merit the usual "one-two."The event is co-produced by Roberts and WCLK hosts Jamal Ahmad and Ray Cornelius, and WCLK At 50's 90-minute set list will span from the 1930s and the classic jazz era ("Maiden Voyage" written by Herbie Hancock, "Take 5" by Dave Brubeck) through today.

'Stunning' may be the best adjective to describe what it's like to bear witness to the fact that someone who was always in motion - talking, creating, co-signing, encouraging, cheering on his Hawks or Falcons - is finally at rest. And, if an event could be summed up in a sentence, then Rico Wade's "celebration of life" April 26 at Ebenezer Baptist Church was the type of remembrance the music biz legend himself would surely not stop talking about. “Hip-hop pioneer” absolutely describes Rico Wade. His contributions to the group with the best-selling rap album of all time — OutKast’s “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” — are enough on their own to earn Wade, an Atlanta original we lost April 13, that qualifier. But he was more. Rico Wade was part of a 2023 Atlanta hip-hop history film.
