Sonya SextonStaff WriterSigma Gamma Rho held its “Meet the Poodles” event on Sept. 5 in the Abraham Campus Center. The intimate event was designed to help the sorority recruit new members for the upcoming school year. French toy poodles are the mascot for this sorority, but no actual dogs were at last week’s recruitment event.

Sonya SextonStaff WriterThe Center for Multicultural Services and the Black Student Union held a welcome back party on Aug. 28 in Sneaky Park to celebrate the beginning of the academic year, and introduce students to the Rise Together mentorship program. The program connects current students and recent graduates with ULV alumni who are excelling in careers  that match the students’ interests. The on-campus event was designed to make students feel welcome and connected.

Sonya SextonStaff WriterThe University held its traditional Convocation Aug. 21 in the Sports Science Athletic Pavilion to welcome students back for the 2024-25 academic year. This year’s Convocation speakers included the University’s newly appointed interim president Risa Dickson, who set a hopeful tone for the academic year and beyond, and professor of public administration and interim associate provost Suzanne Beaumaster, among others.
